Corrosion is a serious problem that can pose a hazard and compromise structural stability. In some cases, this necessitates the replacement of individual components or even the entire installation. This, in turn, incurs significant costs and takes time. How can this be remedied?


CHOOSING THE RIGHT ANTI-CORROSION PROTECTION


We select the appropriate anti-corrosion protection taking into account the location of the construction site. Much depends on the environment and climate in which the work is carried out, as well as the substrate to which the installations are fixed.


Corrosion takes various forms depending on the environment. Therefore, to properly protect a building, one must take into account factors that may increase the risk of corrosion: humidity

  • Humidity

Appropriate humidity is essential for any reaction occurring in the atmosphere.

  • Temperature

The higher the temperature, the faster corrosion progresses.

  • Salt

This can be either salt present in the air, particularly near the coast, or road salt.

WHAT IS CORROSION PROTECTION?


Corrosion is the result of physicochemical reactions that occur between metal and the environment in which it is found.


Corrosion alters the properties of the metal, making it weaker. This can also cause damage to the installation, as well as to its metal components and their protective coatings. In such situations, there is a risk that it will no longer be safe and will need to be replaced.


There are two types of solutions that can help extend the service life of metal components used in buildings. These include active and passive protection of metals against corrosion.


Active protection directly influences the reaction causing corrosion through the use of corrosion-resistant materials, material separation or cathodic corrosion protection.


Passive protection stops or slows down corrosion by separating the metal from the corrosive agent. This can be achieved by applying layers of metal or other corrosion-resistant coatings.
