WHAT IS LECA®
The name Leca comes from the initial letters of the term Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate, meaning ‘lightweight, expanded clay pellets’. The Leca® brand is a hallmark of high-quality expanded clay and the blocks and hollow bricks produced from it.
Leca® EXPANDED CLAY
The Leca brand is a leading manufacturer of expanded clay-based building materials. These can be used to construct all the walls in a residential or public building. Expanded clay concrete elements are also used to make floor blocks, lintel blocks, ventilation ducts and chimney linings. Lightweight ceramic aggregate retains moisture well. That is why it is also used in geotechnical engineering, horticulture and agriculture. Expanded clay is used as a substrate for soilless cultivation, provides excellent drainage for potted plants, and is even a component of biological filters used in ponds. Its attractive appearance means it is often used as decorative gravel.
Expanded clay for special tasks
Expanded clay aggregate is produced in Poland. The factory is located in Gniew in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, where deposits of special, swelling clays and loams are found. After crushing, it is fired in rotary kilns at a temperature of around 1200ºC. Under the influence of heat, the clay significantly increases in volume. It forms into oval lumps with a porous internal structure, covered with a ceramic layer. Depending on the application, a specific aggregate mix is prepared. Expanded clay works well in Polish climatic conditions. It is non-flammable and chemically inert. It exhibits excellent thermal and acoustic insulation properties. It has a low bulk density and high fire and frost resistance. The material is exceptionally resistant to mould, fungi and rodents. It is recommended for insulating ground-level floors and draining basement walls. It can be used to renovate old floors. Expanded clay retains its properties over time, so it can be reused repeatedly.

Expanded clay retains its properties over time, so it can be reused repeatedly. Its production does not harm the environment in any way. This lightweight aggregate allows you to create a dry, warm and healthy interior, suitable even for allergy sufferers. The product does not emit any toxic substances. Even if it gets wet, the moisture quickly evaporates. The material is exceptionally resistant to mould, fungi and rodents. The nutrient-depleted beads do not provide a suitable environment for pests. This ensures clean, healthy and well-ventilated walls in residential and public buildings.
