Kontakt-Simon S.A.
Kontakt-Simon SA was established at the beginning of the last century. On 12 July 1921, representatives of Polish industry, together with the Industrial Bank and the Silesian Industrial Bank, founded the Joint Stock Company of the Electrical Industry in Czechowice. Initially, the factory produced resistors and regulators, installation, lighting and signalling equipment and electrical meters. In a short time, the product range also included insulating holders, fuse sockets, knob switches and porcelain-cased plug sockets, which were very popular at the time.
In 1933, one of the most modern company laboratories in Poland was established in Czechowice and was authorised to carry out the legalisation and testing process. Even before the war, in 1934, the production of power meters began.
Practically from the start, the company had an excellent marketing organisation. The first product catalogue, showing all products with illustrations, description and available colours, was published as early as 1935.
As the years went by, the company expanded its product range. In 1952, the first multi-pin connectors were developed in the factory, followed by new types of switches and hermetic connectors. By 1955, the company's range already included more than 400 items.
In 1974, production of the screw fuse began and in 1978 our company was the first to produce an infrared light switch, thus becoming a forerunner of the use of electronics in electrical equipment.
In 1988, the production of extension cords and connections was launched, which had a large share of export sales for a long time. During the 1980s, the company's characteristic light fittings and dimmers for regulating the intensity of ceiling lighting became a symbol of the company, constructed from brass, wood and glass elements.
The 1990s were a period of major change. On 1 July 1994 the company was transformed into a sole shareholder company of the State Treasury called Fabryka Sprzętu Elektrotechnicznego "KONTAKT SA". A year later the shares of FSE Kontakt were contributed to the National Investment Funds. NFI Magna Polonia sold the shares to the Italian company Urmet Domus International S.A. in 2003. Currently Urmet and the Spanish group Simon Holding S.L. are equivalent shareholders holding 50% of the company's shares each. Since 2005 the company has been operating under the name KONTAKT-SIMON SA.
