Chevron flooring
Chevron – the only ready-to-install flooring of its kind featuring a French herringbone pattern
As early as the 16th century, French kings and aristocrats were captivated by wooden flooring laid in a French herringbone pattern. It charmed with its precise, symmetrical design and lent interiors a sophisticated elegance. Today, it is making a comeback in a modern form – as ready-to-lay Chevron flooring.
Anyone who has visited the palace complex at the Louvre or the residences of the French kings will attest to the unique charm of the Loire Valley. These buildings are still renowned today for their opulent style, and their common feature is the intricately laid wooden flooring. It was these that inspired us to create the Chevron range – an elegant yet functional floor designed to be laid in a French herringbone pattern.
Chevron is the only pre-finished floor of its kind – the individual planks have been cut at a 45º angle on the shorter sides, creating an arrowhead shape. Cutting the planks during production significantly shortens the installation process and ensures a high-quality finish to the intricate pattern, which would be difficult to achieve by cutting each element individually. Unlike French herringbone installed using the traditional method, this floor does not require sanding, filling or varnishing once laid. It also features a tongue-and-groove joint at the front edge, which was previously unheard of – until now, floor fitters had to contend with the so-called ‘foreign tongue’.
Chevron-patterned flooring is a way to achieve a unique effect reminiscent of bygone eras. It blends perfectly with the ornate interiors of suburban homes or renovated manor houses. This pattern is also increasingly being used by architects as a finishing touch in urban interiors in the Scandinavian or avant-garde styles. In large rooms, it is worth opting for planks, whilst parquet will make smaller interiors appear larger.
Finishes
7 layers of durable varnish
A varnish finish highlights the beauty of the wood, adds a sheen and protects the surface. It requires no maintenance, but at the same time does not allow for spot repairs.
3 layers of oil-wax
It penetrates the wood’s structure, thereby enhancing its natural beauty whilst protecting the floor. It requires more frequent maintenance, but allows for spot repairs.
Brushing
This involves brushing the soft parts of the wood grain to create fine indentations. It gives the floor an aged look.
V4 chamfer
This involves gently bevelling the edges. However, in the V4 stage, it is not just two but all four edges that are bevelled. This highlights the individual elements of the floor.
